DAPITAN CITY, Region IX – After three years of hiatus brought by the pandemic, the most anticipated Mathematics Camp in Dapitan city Division is back with the hope to bring learners a motivational atmosphere of regaining their confidence and interest in learning Math.
The activity dubbed “Math Trust Me” started January 21, aims to engage learners who are less motivated in Math by enhancing their knowledge and skills in the subject area through relevant outdoor undertakings. “It is noted that we have identified learners from both elementary and secondary schools in our division who exhibited low performance in Math in our 1st Quarter Assessment and they are our main participants in this activity,” Mathematics Education Program Supervisor Esmeralda A. Bagaipo said during the opening program on
January 21 at Dapitan City Central School.
She stressed that there is a need to conduct such activities to aid the learning gap of the challenged learners and for them to appreciate the importance of Mathematics in their lives. “Along this educational crisis, SDO-Dapitan City formulated and implemented
different interventions and initiatives to response the call of the department,” EPS in Kindergarten Dr. Luna Luz Racho lamented during the camps’ opening ceremony at Potungan NHS.
Unlike the previous division-wide set-up, this year's Math camp was held in five clustered districts: Dapitan Central, Baylimango, Sulangon, Barcelona and Potungan district and conducted on three separate weekends from January 21 to February 5 to cater a large number of participants.
With the theme "Enhancing Experience; Exploring Opportunities," over 600 expected learners across the schools division joined the said Activity , engaging in fun activities such as patrol games, carousel, Math tricks, and the famous Mathlympics during their two-day stay.
Moreover, a Math talent show was also held highlighting saludo performances, speech choir presentations, and Math Tiktok competitions from the previous and present Math campers.
"An innovation by the Math enthusiasts many years ago, and now it is back after the pandemic years," SDO Chief Implementation Division Ella Grace M. Tagupa expressed in her congratulatory note.
The Mathematics Camp, which started in 2014 has been eight years in the process through the initiatives of thes Mathematics Education Program Supervisor and Mathematics Teachers Association and with the joint efforts of its external stakeholders and the schools division office of Dapitan.
