Dapitan City Division is primarily the agency that delivers quality basic education to the Dapitanons. It envisions to become a premier provider of quality basic education in Zamboanga Peninsula, with competent and dedicated teachers and officials who work harmoniously in a system that makes quality education accessible to all.
Dapitan City Schools Division started as part of Zamboanga del Norte Division with Mr. Eleno Razo as the Schools Division Superintendent. Dapitan District was then headed by Mrs. Vicenta O. Recentes as the District Supervisor.
In 1969, City Schools Division of Dapitan City was created with Mr. Francisco B. Gonzales as the first Superintendent. It was dissolved in 1972-1976 and was again merged with Zamboanga del Norte Division.
In 1976, through the effort of Mayor Germanico A. Carreon, Division of Dapitan City was restored and this was composed of five (5) school districts and nine (9) secondary schools under the leadership of the following Schools Division Superintendents:
